Forgiving people is hard, especially if the wounds are deep seated. If we will try to forgive others using our own decisions, it will be the toughest thing to do. And at times, and most often we lack the courage to push through. The human heart puts walls and boundaries to keep it safe from the people it tries to guard itself with. The mind will also put up a very big fight, it will present all logical situations, and reasons why you must not put yourself forward to accomplishing the task of forgiving and letting go- but with God, nothing is impossible. Because the love and obedience for God, blots out fear. In remembering what Jesus Christ did for all of us at the cross of our Calvary, our heart can open, a portal can be created so that the light of forgiveness can go inside.
There are people who are holding a deep seated trauma that they themselves do not understand. There are internal struggles that have taken root inside the core of the mind, that started even as the person is still young. It could be deep grudges against their mother or father, a painful memory caused by a series of struggles especially if they come from families that gave them immense pressure while they are growing up. There are also many homes plagued by sin, hopelessness, greed and jealousy.
Many children grow up in an environment that is hardly ideal, the world that we are living in have seen generations of family carry many curses and forms of sin that has greatly affected children. And this children, when they grow up carry the pain and struggle inside their soul. By the grace of God, we are able to carry on as adults. But if we are without the constant relationship and connection with Jesus Christ, if we do not pray daily and have frequent conversations with God through the guidance of the Holy Spirit then it is easy to get misled. Our pain and trauma from our own families have the ability to blind us to the truth, and without even understanding it, we carry the pain with us, and if not internalized and faced we can unknowingly pass it on to the next generation.
The way of the world is sinful, it puts so many hindrances and blockages. From sexual perversion, idolatry, greed and immense love for money and material things, as well as sexual corruption of the mind. It will not come as a surprise, that we as humans hardly understand what is right from wrong, and as a result our hearts have become colder and colder, and only the Living Word of God, through the Holy Scriptures can help point us and guide us to the Truth. When Jesus Christ said that He is the Way, The Truth and the Life, Christ was in every way pointing us to the door, the portal, the solution, the path or the road that we have to take, so that this world will not engulf or dim us.
The world is so crooked and perverted right now, full of deceit and lies that understanding our own mind and heart gets harder and harder. This is the reason why the Holy Scriptures was given to us, so we can have a guide system, a way for us to return. This is why Jesus Christ was sent to us, His words are like a Flaming Sword, that will cut through our heart so that we can wake up and be led back to the path of light- without Christ our soul will perish. We will live in utter and despicable blindness. Only the Holy Bible, the Scriptures and the words and life of Jesus Christ enables us to remember that there is another world that is coming. This old world will be destroyed, and the real and true Kingdom would emerge.
Those of us, who have been harboring hate, grudge and bitterness. Those of us who are unable to love, those of us who cower in fear, and feel alone, depressed and without guidance can put their trust and faith in God.
Forgiving our own family members is hard, forgiving your own mother, your own father, your own sister, your own brother, your friend, your lover, your husband, your wife, your children, your co-worker, your business partner, your neighbor is a very hard thing to do on your own. Because the world is already full of lies, and the human heart has been poisoned by sin. But if we start seeking God again, if we start believing and putting our trust in Jesus Christ- our hearts will open, and our minds will be filled with light emanating from God’s love.
Our entire existence is not in vain. Because we know that Jesus Christ came to the world to save us from our sins, we can have the courage to forgive others.
Because Jesus Christ was humble and yet brave enough to face the temptations and perils of this world- we gain courage to go out of the deep corners of darkness where we hid ourselves- because we understand that Jesus Christ died for us, because of Pure Love- we are able to walk out of our mental prison.
Because Jesus Christ is alive, and has fully resurrected and is about to return to be seen by every living being in the world we can have courage to drop our deep seated fears. Because of Jesus Christ we can have courage to choose to live and to choose to forgive. Because Jesus Christ loved us intensely, deeply and in the most perfect way, the deep grudges that has made its way in our hearts are now removed, the chains in our past no longer hold us.
Because of the love of Jesus Christ- the many grace and blessings of God can shine with us again and this includes the fruits of the Holy Spirit– we can feel joy again, we can trust, we can help other people again despite the frustrations. Because of Jesus Christ, it would be possible to love our enemies, to treat people with kindness though they have wronged us. Because of God’s Love for us in Sending Jesus Christ, we can devote our lives again to beautiful and rewarding gifts of life.
Because of Jesus Christ we can love again. And even though we are still here in the physical body and have many trials and persecutions. Our heart, which was once cold and dark.. is now made clean, made warm, made red with burning fire– by the One Who loves and Cherishes us the most-Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
In Christ Alone Our Hope is Found
When we start asking Jesus Christ to come to our heart, we will be able to bear the pain of this world. We remember how Jesus Christ has instructed us to love our enemies. To do good even to those who hate you. To Pray for happiness of those who curse you. To pray even for those who hurt you in the past, today and in the coming days.
For we await for the life, the Spiritual Life that is about to come, the Spiritual World that is far more better than what we have right now. We start asking for forgiveness and begin shedding our old self. We begin to welcome the love and hope of the Holy Spirit- and we start looking forward for the New Kingdom that is to come. The old self, the old life doesn’t matter now– we are now a New Creation in Jesus Christ.
Luke 6:27-36 New International Version (NIV)
Love for Enemies
27 “But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29 If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. 30 Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. 31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.
32 “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. 34 And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. 35 But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. 36 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.
